6th March, 2008: Fruit and Almond Tea Announcement
I have exciting news we have enough ingredients to make 400 cases of Fruit & Almond tea. The tea will be available to purchase online (www.bigelowtea.com) in approximately two weeks. The tea will be packaged in white generic boxes but the foil will be in the standard Fruit and Almond overwrap. I am also working on making it available (on line only) from this point forward. More news to come on that front – but for now, we are making up 400 cases for you amazing wonderful consumers. Thank you so much for enjoying our tea!!!

5th February, 2008: Solar Panels Generate Excitement
Our solar array has now been up and running for three months and has been producing power each and every day. Now some days have been a bit brighter and sunnier than others but if you go to this link you can see how we are doing each day or for the week/month/year.
The solar project has been a great success not only in the power produced but in the interest it has generated. From showing the array to other companies who are interested in solar to just recently being contacted by a 13 year old that is doing a paper on solar for a school project, the amount of interest is amazing. When our project was brought on line we were the 2nd largest solar array in the state of CT and that gave us some bragging rights. Today I am very happy to say we have dropped to probably the 4th or 5th largest in the state. That means more and more companies have taken steps into green power and overall that is the best thing for everyone.

7th May, 2007: Bigelow Employees Succeed Together
Each spring we develop goals for the employee bonus system, “BEST”. This program focuses on identifying items we want to improve for the upcoming year. Most of the goals deal around production items such as; reducing scrap, improving our output, reducing rework, those types of things. Some of the goals go into longer term changes such as training, safety, classes taken, skills learned, and job sharing. All goals need to have an impact on the business and are affected by the employee, usually on a daily/weekly bases. Each plant has a team that will work on developing goals and measurements that are critical to that plant. Those goals will be submitted to a corporate steering committee where they will be discussed and voted on. We review the measurements three times a year and make payouts depending upon how well those goals were met. Over the last ten years this has been a great way for the company to involve employees in setting the direction and sharing in the benefits of those improvements.

16th March, 2007: Safety Matters!
Working safely is something you can not do too much of. The Boise plant, which is doing extremely well with safety, has gone 965 days with out a lost time accident which is outstanding for a production facility.
The Bigelow company has taken many steps to help make our people and operation safe, from implementing the Dupont STOP training (a methodology that focuses on improving the conditions vs. focusing on people) to yearly plant inspections to name a couple.
The efforts in safety have been recognized by OSHA (OSHA is Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the government organization that regulates employment conditions to insure they are safe for workers) with their awarding the Boise plant the “SHARP Award”.
“Bigelow Tea has done an excellent job of safety and health management at its Boise facility,” said OSHA Regional Administrator Richard Terrill in Seattle. “The company has adopted safety as a business priority, working with employees and management towards improving their safety and health management system.”
The company, employees, and management take safety very seriously and it shows.
