Will Joe Torre and Terry Francona Meet?

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Well the weather is getting cooler and what a great time to enjoy many cups of Bigelow Green Tea while you’re watching the Baseball Playoffs and World Series. It’s been a great run for many teams but we’re down to the final eight. I can’t believe that Joe Torre and Terry Francona (two of our Bigelow spokespeople and regular Bigelow Green Tea drinkers) are in the playoffs and could meet in the World Series. What’s even more interesting is that Terry and Joe have been friends for many years. I don’t know how many people know the story but Joe played with Terry’s father Tito Francona when Terry was a boy and they’ve been friends ever since. Today their bond also includes their regular enjoyment of Bigelow Green Tea.

I wish them both good luck in their quest for a World Championship!

Thank You Joe Torre and Phil Simms!

Friday, July 20th, 2007

What a great day I had on Tuesday-got to spend hours with two great, great giants, Joe Torre and Phil Simms.  We are doing our marketing campaign for this upcoming season and I had an opportunity to interview both guys about tea, sports, life philosophies-it was truly a special experience for me.  The conversation was on video so I will have an opportunity to share it on our blog.  I am like a little kid, I cannot wait to see it.  These guys were so gracious, engaging, and warm and we did it while sharing a cup of Bigelow Green Tea.  It was a day to remember!

Joe Torre and Phil Simms visit Bigelow Tea

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Let me give you a little Bigelow history about Joe Torre, Managerof the Yankees, and Phil Simms, former Quarterbackof the NY Giants. Joe Torre agreed to do an ad campaign for us because he believed so much in the value and healing powers of green tea (he has recovered from prostate cancer). It was a natural that he teamed up with Bigelow Tea for print ads, radio spots and more. Our campaign was so successful that we quickly knew that our effort had to be expanded. With that I received a call from Phil and Chris Simms who are both avid Bigelow Green Tea drinkers. We had several meetings and soon realized that they would be great as members of the Bigelow Green Tea Team! The ad has been running in Sports Illustrated and the New York Times and it has been getting a great response from readers across the country.

Because we appreciate all that they have done for Bigelow, we wanted to say thanks by inviting them to Bigelow Tea in Fairfield, Connecticut. The big day was Tuesday December 5th. What a day it was with the visit from Phil Simms, Joe Torre and their wives. It was so rewarding to watch them engage with all of the employees and to have them learn about how we make tea. Joe and Phil are great representatives for our company. Not only did they enjoy themselves with our team but we truly appreciated their coming to visit and their overall support for Bigelow Tea. Thank you Joe and Phil!

Joe Torre and Green Tea

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

As more and more men are trying green tea because of all of the health benefits, we were delighted to learn that Joe Torre, Phil Simms and Chris Simms all drank Bigelow Green Tea. All three had unique stories about how they started drinking Bigelow Green Tea, starting with Joe Torre. Joes nutritionist told him to make green tea a regular part of his diet after his bout with prostate cancer in 1999, and so Joe drinks anywhere from six to eight cups of iced green tea during each game:

During the sixth inning of every game I have a soy shake and throughout the game I will drink anywhere from six to eight cups of iced green tea. Both are supposed to play a preventive role against prostate cancer and since I like the taste, it’s not a problem.

For me, it was so great meeting Joe Torre during our advertising photo shoot in Central Park in New York City. He was a complete delight with all of the fans that day.

Growing up I was a huge Willie Mays fan and followed the San Francisco Giants every year. When I told Joe about being a Willie Mays fan, he said he also grew up a New York Giants fan and loved watching Willie Mays play. Green tea and sports legends like Joe Torre have made my job very exciting!

Yankees Will Retire Bigelow Tea Fan Joe Torre’s Number!

Another special baseball event: legendary manager Joe Torre’s Jersey No. 6 is being retired by the New York Yankees tomorrow August 23rd, a rare honor from the most successful franchise in MLB’s history.  Bigelow Tea is excited for Joe, who has been on the family-run company’s All-Star Tea Team for years as a great friend and an enthusiastic Decaffeinated Green Tea lover!

Retiring Joe’s number is a testament to him and the championship Yankee teams he coached. “I am incredibly humbled,” Joe said in a statement. “Because of what our players accomplished … No. 6 will stand for everything our players achieved.” Joe joins other Yankee greats like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle and Jackson. Talk about a Field of Dreams!

Tea drinkers appreciate Joe’s love for Bigelow Tea’s Green Tea from years back when he was diagnosed with cancer. His Bigelow Tea was always on the Yankees bench. Bigelow Tea Facebook fan Penny Zeiter Shamy recently shared her “Joe story” of trying for ages to get her husband to drink Bigelow Tea’s Green Tea. He wouldn’t … until he saw that Joe Torre recommended it. “Thank you Bigelow Tea!”  And Joe himself said, “when I found out how good green tea was for me, Bigelow was easy to love!”

Bigelow Tea recently congratulated Joe when he was welcomed into the hallowed halls of Cooperstown. Well, go ahead and raise another mug of tea today to commemorate the Yankees retiring Jersey No.6! As his plaque at Cooperstown reads: Joe Torre is a “Beacon of serenity and stature in the Dugout.” Maybe it was all that green tea!

Things are buzzing at Bigelow Tea—our good friend and baseball legend Joe Torre is going to Cooperstown! Bigelow Tea takes sports seriously, and this highest honor in baseball is well deserved with Joe’s stellar career! Bigelow Tea is proud that Joe was also the first sports star spokesperson for this family owned and operated tea company. Remember there is no TEAM without TEA!

As a player, Joe’s career batting average was .297 with 2,342 hits and 252 home runs; and in an even greater career as a legendary manger he won six American League Pennants and four World Series, ranking fifth in all-time wins with 2,326!

Joe has made a great impression on tea drinkers for years. He shared his love for Bigelow Tea in this vintage video from 2007, talking with Bigelow Tea President and CEO Cindi Bigelow (and another great Bigelow Tea lover Phil Simms). Joe shares that when diagnosed with cancer, he took action and decided that Bigelow Tea would be part of his overall plan for taking care of himself. That’s why Joe was often seen drinking Bigelow Green Tea during his amazing career with the New York Yankees!

Today Joe is the Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations for MLB and keeps busy with the Joe Torre Safe At Home FoundationSunday, July 27 at 1:30 p.m., after many other awards, Joe will receive baseball’s highest honor. The Bigelow Tea family is proud to say that Joe has been an All-Star on Bigelow Tea’s team for years!

Joe Torre: One of Bigelow Tea’s Favorite “Boys Of Summer!”

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

We’ve talked a lot of baseball here at Bigelow Tea. With the season in full swing (pun intended) and the passing of the incomparable George Steinbrenner, our minds sometimes drift to the thoughts of cracker jacks, homeruns and extra innings. We do love America’s Pastime!

And so with both baseball and tea on our minds, we like to focus on members of the Bigelow Tea family, like our friend and tea-lover Joe Torre, in the middle of his third season with the LA Dodgers. Joe has been in major league baseball for an incredible 45 years, with an impressive award-winning career as a player, followed by an amazing coaching career as a manager. Joe ranks fifth in all-time in victories among Major League managers – and has more postseason victories (84) than any manager in Major League history!

We’re proud to say that Joe enjoys Bigelow green tea regularly, and he’s been a loyal Bigelow spokesman for years (along with other sports greats like Terry Francona, Phil Simms and Wayne Gretzky).

As Joe told us, “when I found out how good green tea was for me, Bigelow was easy to love!” Well, Joe, the feeling’s mutual. We wish you the best of luck with the rest of the season as we finish off summer and move into fall. We look forward to sharing tea with you again soon!

Talk Tea with Joe Torre, Phil Simms, and Terry Francona

Monday, March 30th, 2009

[blip.tv ?posts_id=1923918&dest=-1]

It only took a few cups of steaming hot Bigelow tea to bring together three of America’s finest — Joe Torre, Phil Simms and Terry Francona — in a recent video shoot with Cindi Bigelow, President of Bigelow Tea. Cindi talked tea with the sporting icons, who unanimously agreed (tongue in cheek) that Bigelow is the only company to get the Red Sox and Yankees sitting and smiling together at the same table!

NFL legend Phil Simms, former NY Giants quarterback and sportscaster for CBS, confirmed that he drinks at least four cups of Bigelow tea per day while Terry Francona, Manager for the Boston Red Sox, is an enthusiastic fan of Bigelow’s Green Tea with Pomegranate.

For the family and employees of Bigelow, tea is not just a business; it’s a passion. Joe Torre, LA Dodgers Manager and Bigelow loyalist, told Cindi: “As soon as I found out how good green tea was for me, Bigelow was easy to love. Going up to Connecticut, meeting your parents, it was like being in somebody’s home. That means a lot when you’re talking about using a product like Bigelow Tea…they’re the people who basically invented it…if you knew how passionate they were, it helps.”

And that says it all.
