It’s true the world is going green, and not a moment too soon. In a global effort to preserve our beautiful planet, professionals and regular folks alike are making sustainable choices in every facet of their lives. And, as Dorothy said when she returned from Oz “There’s no place like home!” That’s what architects, builders, developers and homeowners around the world are thinking as well. Green architects are cropping up everywhere and the mantra of the new millennium is “Build Green!”
However, as Bigelow Tea can affirm, this doesn’t only apply to residential housing. Commercial buildings are being constructed and reconstructed with eco-friendly and energy-efficient features, using sustainable materials such as bamboo for flooring. There is also the more efficient use of space, as well as taking full advantage of nature’s brightest treasure – the sun.
Solar panels are being incorporated into the rooftops of buildings; Bigelow Tea’s corporate headquarters in Fairfield, Connecticut is a great example. Since the installation of our solar panels, our energy consumption has decreased considerably, which is great for the environment, and our accounting department is thrilled with the significantly reduced power bills!

Have you noticed that many new buildings are sporting more windows these days? Businesses want to bring the daylight indoors – it reduces energy costs and, let’s face it, a sunny room makes people more productive (and happy) at work. Residential homes and commercial buildings are being designed with a conscious effort to bring the outside in – with landscaping, natural building materials, water preservation and daylighting. (It’s such a critical component that architects have coined the term!)
So by all means, let the Sunshine in!
