at peace with your neighbors,
and let each new year find you a better man.”

Perhaps it’s the optimist in each of us, but year after year we prepare our New Year’s resolutions, fully intending to follow through on each and every one of them. With anticipation, we await the stroke of midnight…so that we may wipe the slate clean and begin afresh.

The more disciplined among us actually make good on their resolutions. The rest of us, well, we can fall a little short! Granted, we have the best intentions, but maybe our goals are too unrealistic. Or, maybe we just lose our motivation by the end of the first month! Whatever the reason, there’s still hope for us…after all, isn’t that the whole premise of a New Year’s resolution – Hope?

The practice of New Year’s resolutions dates as far back as 153 B.C. Janus was the Roman god of beginnings and endings; guardian of doors, doorways, and entrances – the ancient symbol of the New Year and resolutions. With two heads facing opposite directions, he could look back at the old year and forward to the New Year simultaneously. The first month of the solar year, January, was aptly named after this mythical god.

So, get ready to begin the New Year, reflect on the past year and make a sound plan for the next twelve months.  At Bigelow Tea, the plan is simple: we will continue to value our families, friends, community, and you, our customers. We hope that 2010 will usher in a stronger economy, a better appreciation for the environment, and peace for all.
