18th August, 2008: Tea Songs by Nirvana and Others
Tunes about tea have been popular ever since the Big Band days of Tommy Dorsey. In more recent memory, however, even American grunge band Nirvana came up with a tea song to sing, Pennyroyal Tea. Now you can listen to that and other tea tunes online via a coffee and tea blog.
Other listening options include Have a Cuppa Tea by the Kinks where the lyrics recommend tea…
If you feel a bit under the weather,
If you feel a little bit peeved,
Take granny’s stand-by potion
For any old cough or wheeze.

An interesting point I read recently was about the song ‘Tea for Two and Two for Tea’( not sure if this is the actual name, but I think everyone will know the song I’m speaking of) is that ‘tea for two’ was a way of ordering a sandwich and tea for two cents ~ You just hollered it out to the waitress. I always thought it referenced ordering tea for two people.
