21st December, 2007: Nutcracker Teas
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet has become a holiday classic. Set to music and dance, the Nutcracker is the tale of a young girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King. But increasingly, this story is also played out in Nutcracker Teas throughout the United States.
In a sugar-plum fantasy that’s come to life, adults and children alike can now meet their favorite Nutcracker characters as they enjoy tea and refreshments. On the East Coast, the Loudoun Ballet Company in Virginia features three teas scheduled for December first and second. Meanwhile, guests of the Hotel Boulderado (in Colorado) can enjoy Nutcracker vignettes during tea dates stretching from late November through late December.
The Midwest is equally fond of Nutcracker teas. Now, for a second year, The Arts and Recreation Foundation of Overland Park, Kansas has announced two “kid-friendly” teas scheduled for December 2. As the holiday season gears up, their southern neighbors in Birmingham, Alabama are pulling out all the stops with special teas as part of a VIP package that features first class seating and special souvenir photos.
Not finding your region here? Your community may be hosting a Nutcracker tea, too! For more information on the Nutcracker and performances in the U.S., visit Nutcracker Ballet online.
