31st December, 2007: Alicia Keys Shares Love for Tea
“Making tea for journalists is not normally on the agenda of most musicians,” but it was a task singer Alicia Keys eagerly undertook as she sat down with a reporter from Sunday Life. ”I love tea,” Keys confided, while choosing an herbal brew for herself on this occasion.
The New York performer is the recipient of nine Grammy awards and, according to her official biography, is the first female R&B artist to have three consecutive #1 debuts on the Billboard 200 album chart in as many releases.
Visit Keys’ website to view pics of this young talent as – with tea mug in hand – she performs on Good Morning America.

28th December, 2007: Each Year A Checkup!
Each year we go through our manufacturing policies, procedures and training guidelines to make sure they are the latest and greatest. Usually there are some simple things that need to be changed based upon improvements like adding conveyors or adjusting how rework is done. This year we are focused on improving how we track and maintain all the different training we do for our employees. Some training is required like; Lock out Tag out (for electrical safety) Forklift and Ladder Safety, Good Manufacturing Procedures (which goes into more detail on how we operate and maintain our facilities), but others are focused on specific jobs to make sure everyone is doing them in the same manner. Each year the Operators, Mechanics, and QA go through refresher training and then are tested on their abilities just to make sure we are following the right procedures. The system we are introducing allows us to view each employee to determine when their last training occurred, what training is needed for that position, and also shows the training information that is being followed. It may seem like a lot of work that is not related to making a tea bag but it is one more way we make sure we are always making the best possible product.

26th December, 2007: Green Tea May Cut Colon Cancer Risk in Half
MSNBC.com recently reported that green tea may ward off colon cancer. Research, sponsored by the American Association for Cancer Research, found that rats fed a diet containing green tea Polyphenon E were less than half as likely to develop colon cancer. The other good news is that these findings were consistent with previously published reports correlating green tea consumption and lower colon cancer rates in Shanghai, China. As a result, researchers believe the latest findings will lead to clinical trials with green tea polyphenals in humans.
In the spirit of the holiday season, drink green tea and toast to all the health benefits green tea has to offer…including digestive health!

24th December, 2007: Milk Is Not The Only Drink That Builds Strong Bones - Try A Cup Of Tea
A recent article in the Washington Post states that drinking tea may actually benefit your bones. According to Australian lead researcher, Amanda Devine, “Those who drank tea in the study had a higher bone density over the four years that they were studied. These women lost less bone than those who did not drink tea. More than three-quarters of the women drank tea daily, and they consumed an average of about three cups per day.” In particular, bone density at the hip was found to improve among elderly women 70 to 85 years old.
From now on, when you cozy up with a cup of tea to warm your bones, relish the thought that you may be strengthening them at the same time.

21st December, 2007: Nutcracker Teas
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet has become a holiday classic. Set to music and dance, the Nutcracker is the tale of a young girl who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King. But increasingly, this story is also played out in Nutcracker Teas throughout the United States.
In a sugar-plum fantasy that’s come to life, adults and children alike can now meet their favorite Nutcracker characters as they enjoy tea and refreshments. On the East Coast, the Loudoun Ballet Company in Virginia features three teas scheduled for December first and second. Meanwhile, guests of the Hotel Boulderado (in Colorado) can enjoy Nutcracker vignettes during tea dates stretching from late November through late December.
The Midwest is equally fond of Nutcracker teas. Now, for a second year, The Arts and Recreation Foundation of Overland Park, Kansas has announced two “kid-friendly” teas scheduled for December 2. As the holiday season gears up, their southern neighbors in Birmingham, Alabama are pulling out all the stops with special teas as part of a VIP package that features first class seating and special souvenir photos.
Not finding your region here? Your community may be hosting a Nutcracker tea, too! For more information on the Nutcracker and performances in the U.S., visit Nutcracker Ballet online.

19th December, 2007: The Best Gift of All: Tea
It is no wonder that for centuries both the Western and Eastern cultures have turned to tea for its calming and soothing effects as well as for treatment of maladies, such as stomachaches and migraines (click here for more tea information). What a gift!
Tea kills germs — drinking 20 oz. daily for two weeks can double the immune system’s infectious fighting output.
Tea reduces stress – green tea flavored with peppermint counteracts stress by improving relaxation response and 4 cups of black tea per day lowers stress hormones in the bloodstream after emotional situations.
Tea improves skin – whether you drink it or apply if topically, green tea polyphenol can improve the appearance of wrinkles, wounds and rosacea and protect from ultraviolet carcinogens.
Who wouldn’t want to be healthy (kills germs), relaxed (reduces stress) and look younger (improves skin) especially during the holiday season? Give the gift of tea…who could ask for more…make sure to visit the Holiday Catalog at www.bigelowtea.com.

17th December, 2007: Celebri-Tea Interviews
Tea is often the beverage of choice during celebrity interviews. And perhaps it’s no wonder due to tea’s purported ability to soothe the throat and nerves as well. Which is why we shouldn’t be surprised to learn that actress Claire Danes has been known to sip peppermint tea during interviews with reporters. Or that Cate Blanchett also goes for a mint tea.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling doesn’t stop there, however. The successful author has even been caught prescribing herbal tea with honey and lemon to her interviewers!

14th December, 2007: Got String?
Some things you just take for granted, you have milk in the refrigerator, the light will come on when you turn the switch, and at work your computer will work and there is paper in the copy machine. When these things don’t happen as expected your day is slightly disrupted but you recover without much issue. If your car does not start and you cannot get to work then that can have a bigger impact on how well your day turns out. Today we had a concern with our inventory of string for our tea machine being a bit low; in fact we had the possibility of running out. Now that is more in line with the car not starting, it could ruin the day. We were scheduled to receive delivery of more string on Monday but issues arose and the shipment was moved out to Thursday. Typically we carry a higher inventory during our busy time but it was lower than normal so this delay just made it a bigger issue. We have worked for many years with the same suppliers and have built a good relationship that makes us both committed to each other’s success. When the supplier found out our situation they sent string on a special currier to tie us over until the scheduled delivery. We should never have run out of string in the first place or even been this close because we have reports, checks, and people making sure we have enough inventories but I guess it was not enough. Now that we know the tea machines will not run out of string we need to go back through our process and find out what we can do to improve it so we do not have this issue happen again.
