9th April, 2007: Tea Bag Equipment Spring Cleaning
Each year we take our tea bag equipment apart and do a major part evaluation and replacement, almost like rebuilding your car engine. You would not think that tea could be that abrasive but when the machines are running at high speeds for a year tea tends to wear parts.
Not all tea companies take such a proactive approach to analyze/replace parts prior to problems, some only replace parts when they break. We believe by keeping our equipment in tip top shape all the time which allows us to control our process and give a more reliable tea bag to our consumers.

That is one of the reasons I drink Bigelow tea - concern for quality!

Could you please tell me the shelf life of tea bags???
Thank you and have a great day, Doris
Comment by Doris Zipp — April 12, 2007 @ 12:38 pm
Dorris,
All of our teas have a shelf life of approximately three years from the time of purchase. After the three year period, the tea will be perfectly safe to drink, but the flavor may not be as robust. You can identify the year that the product was manufactured by the production code located on the bottom of the box, usually appearing under the bar code. This production code will be nine characters, with the last number representing the year. If the last number is a 4, the product was manufactured in 2004. If it is a 5, the year of production is 2005; a 6 is 2006 and 7 is 2007 etc.
We would also like to share with you, that we just recently began printing a “Best Buy Date”, on the boxes, to make reading the expiration date easier for our consumers.
Thank you for your question!

Are your teas gluten free?
Comment by Lois — May 9, 2007 @ 4:23 pm
Lois,
Thanks for your comment.
You stated that you would like to know which of our teas contain gluten.
The teas listed below contain barley malt, but when tested, showed no results for gluten. They are:
Blueberry Harvest Herb Tea
Chamomile Mango Herb Tea
Cinnamon Spice Herb Tea (was called Sinfully Cinnamon Herb Tea)
Take-A-Break loose tea
Any tea NOT listed above is gluten free.

I asked a couple of days ago about the tea
named Take a Break.
Could you please tell me where I can get it.

Bill,
We no longer make Take-A-Break in tea bags; however, it is available in loose form.
It is packaged in an 8 ounce bag, which makes approximately 50-60 cups of tea. The price is $9.50 per bag which includes shipping and handling.

I want to buy a Bigelow Take-A-Break herb tea, caffeine-free in a brown package. “A rich blend of roasted grains and spices with a delicious coffee-like flavor” on package. Made from carob, barley, chicory root, cinnamon, anise seed, roasted wheat. Do you still make it and can I buy It?

You asked where you may purchase our Take a Break Herb Tea.
This tea has been discontinued. We no longer have any remaining inventory and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Again, thank you for your interest.
