28th February, 2007: NJ.com knows about Green Tea and Joe Torre!

Lisa Kennelly of NJ.com, The Star-Ledger reports on the drink everyone is having in the clubhouse:

“Forget Gatorade and protein shakes. In the Yankees’ clubhouse, tea — particularly antioxidant-rich green tea — has become the beverage of choice for more than a few players and coaches.”

28th February, 2007: Back and Busy!

Just got back from a week off (that was more needed than I ever could have imagined…just ask my team) and really have a lot to get done before I fly to California for a week of business/trade show work!  It never ceases to amaze me how diverse each day is for me…just finished addressing a “code one” for an employee that was injured, after reviewing our fall catalog lay out and then getting ready for a sales call to a large account all day in Boston for tomorrow.  The number of hats that I put on in a day is really fun but you have to be able to change direction on a dime.  Thank heavens I am in the tea business, if I didn’t have that relaxing cup of tea to look forward to throughout my day, well who knows……got to run!

26th February, 2007: Spring Training

It must be spring training for baseball because there was Joe Torre being interviewed by WNBC sports and sure enough he was enjoying a cup of Bigelow green tea. Joe is such an advocate of making Bigelow green tea a part of his lifestyle that he drinks it hot or iced throughout the day. He’s even got many of his Yankee colleagues dipping into his personal stash of Bigelow green tea (although I hear Joe is always quick to share his green tea). He’s even got Yogi drinking Bigelow green tea!

23rd February, 2007: Tea Partnerships create Success!

Last week we had a kick off meeting with one of our vendors, Amgraph, to look at improving the inventory turns of their packaging product and improve our communication. Amgraph has been supplying products to Bigelow for over twenty years and the relationship has been outstanding. That does not mean it has always been great and there has been a lot of effort put in by both companies to improve the communication and work together on problems. Both companies have sent top management and hourly employees to each others plant to understand the issues and meet the people that supply/use their product.

For this meeting we had four people from each company look at how we currently order, store, and utilize the product. The process flow was charted and then we started to look for areas that could be shortened and improved. This was just the kick off meeting and we will continue to meet regularly to follow the recommendations and look for other opportunities to improve the process.

It is amazing the results a team can accomplish when they share a common focus and care about the product.

21st February, 2007: Sipping in Vermont

Just took a few days off with the family.  Came to Vermont to ski.  After the 25 inches they received last Wednesday, it doesn’t get any better up here.

Walked into dinner a few nights ago and was behind Michael J. Fox.  Ended up sitting at the table next to his.  What a sweet man with a lovely family. I didn’t say anything to him (I think that is rude anyway) but I admired his spirit.  You just couldn’t miss his positive nature.

It was a cold one yesterday, about -20 with wind chill but today is sunny and in the mid 20’s.  Time to get up and hit the slope… after my cup of Vanilla Chai.  I’ll let you know how the day goes…..should be a beauty!

20th February, 2007: Green Tea in the Health Limelight

A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that higher consumption of green tea was found to be a factor in higher cognitive functioning. The subjects of this study done by the Tsurugaya Project were 1003 Japanese people over the age of 70. Each individual completed a questionnaire that included information on how often they consumed green tea. ” . . . older people who drank at least two cups of antioxidant rich green tea per day were 50% less likely to develop cognitive impairment compared to the people who drank three or fewer cups on a weekly basis.” wrote Annette Dypping D.C. about the study.

19th February, 2007: Bigelow’s Ads Buzzing

There is a lot of talk going on…it’s so cool to see and hear from our consumer’s about how much they love Bigelow’s print ads.  Readers everywhere are letting us know how much they are enjoying seeing us in O Magazine (we know Oprah is a big tea drinker), Real Simple and Sports Illustrated which features Joe Torre and Phil and Chris Simms.

Let us know what you think when you see our next ad!  We are really excited about them.

16th February, 2007: Hooked on Bigelow Tea

I just wanted to tell you that your ADVERTISING really works! I noticed your very impactful ads in Sports Illustrated featuring Phil and Chris Simms. And since I’ve been interested in green tea for a while now, I thought I’d give Bigelow a try. Well, I’m hooked! Absolutely delicious. A great daily “pick me up” here at work! Thanks a million and congrats to your ad agency on a job well done!

14th February, 2007: Hot Tea and a Valentine!

Valentines Day…snowed a few inches (hoping for a few more during the day). Great day to have a cup of tea with the people you love. I have been traveling almost every week and this is my first full week back in the office in over 4 weeks.  So today I am going to take it slow, let my body come back to a more balanced place and have a cup of green tea with pomegranate. Perrrrfect…let it snow

12th February, 2007: Bigelow and the Green

I attended the “Build a Greener Connecticut” forum in Hartford where business leaders were able to learn and discuss issues that are making a positive impact on the environment.  Many states are now taking a lead role in promoting and educating people and businesses on how they can make a difference and be more environmentally friendly.

In Louisville one of our Employee Involvement Teams identified an area they wanted to work on; “Reduce the Amount of Paper and Recycle more of our Waste”.  The team identified many areas where they were able to eliminate or reduce waste.  They were recognized by the state of Kentucky for their efforts with the “Green Star Award”.  The impact this team had was not just at work but also on how we conduct ourselves away from work; little by little we can make a positive impact on our environment.

Take a look in your town/state and see if there are things you can do to help make your area a greener environment.  It does not take much to make an impact; reduce, reuse, recycle.
